14th birthday layout

As my DS has just celebrated his 15th birthday, I thought I better get on with scrapping his 14th. I bought some Echo Park papers and alphabet sheets from Papermaze the other day, having been introduced to Echo Park through my Quirky Kits Lite subscription. The alphabet sticker sheets in particular, are fabulous value and I have become a bit of a collector now. Their collections always include several double sided sheets of paper which have lots of bits and pieces that make them ideal to cut up for embellishments, as seen in the 'my son' and 'family' elements in this layout.

Clean and simple thank you card

This is taking clean and simple to the extreme!

Thanks to my great new Canon printer, printing directly on to these Craftwork Cards blanks is a breeze. These are about 9.5cm square and are a good size for a quick thank you note.

The writing looks a little blurred but isn't in real life; it's just my lack of photo taking skills.

Boys2Men fishing birthday card

I've made another card with the rather fab Ella's Designs Boys2Men cd. This time I've used the fishing kit, and made a card for my DS who fished for the first time last week, catching a 3lb rainbow trout which we ate that evening for tea.

I was able to attach some clear plastic thread to the back of the finest part of the fishing rod, which gave it a little more strength. I used PVA in my fine tipped glue bottle and couldn't have done the job without it. I made the little stand up signs with strips of card folded in half. The larger 'gone fishing' sign was attached to the base of the card with PVA at the front and a line of Pinflair glue at the back to lift the edge up slightly which then provides the stopper for the easel card. The card still folds flat to go in a normal envelope.

Bon voyage card

I've made this card for a great pal who is moving to Spain next week. Three of us meet up every couple of months or so for a meal, so I've made this card from both of us. Behind the map, showing the route from us to her, are two tags with a photo and little message from us both. The tags are journalling cards from the new Docraft Happy Days range. The numbers are cut with my fab Sizzix Word Play die.

Hunkydory My Potted Plants birthday card

I don't suppose many people need to make a 104th birthday card, but my dear Granny will reach this great age later this month. I've used My Potted Plants from the recent big Hunkydory For All card kit on Create and Craft to make the type of traditional card she'll like. The letters and numbers are Sizzlet dies.

Creative Boutique Oldmeldrum

A couple of crafty pals and I had the pleasure of visiting a new craft shop that has opened in Oldmeldrum, just a short drive away. It is called Creative Boutique and is owned by the same lady, Karen, who owns the very well established Papercrafts Boutique in Elgin. It is great to a have a good craft shop within reach, and there are lots of plans for classes in the teaching area to the rear of the shop. You can get a coffee and a cupcake if you visit at the weekend too.

Pearl wedding anniversary white on white card

I've made this card for friends celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary. I've embossed the background with my Hougie board, and then added another layer of dots embossing, Sizzlit dies and a nestie. The numbers were cut twice from card to give the layer more depth and create more shadow so they would show up more.

New bike at Knockburn layout

I love this picture of my son, all mud-spattered after taking part in a mountain bike race on his new bike. I mostly used the latest Quirky Kits Lite, with a few bits taken from previous kits - I really enjoy mixing them all up. The embellishments and letters are old bits and bobs from my stash and I finished the LO off with a random border with my sewing machine.

I needed to employ some of the cunning tricks used by crafters who run out of the letters they need to complete a title. I was two 'n's and an 'r' short, so created one of the 'n's and the 'r' by making use of the scant waste around the letters, and the second 'n' was made from a cut down 'm'. Sorted!

Bennachie layout 2

Here's another LO of our May Day trip up to the top of Bennachie last year. Once again, I've used lots of bits and pieces from Quirky Kits Lite, mixing up lots of different kits. As I don't have any of the (hilariously named) Mr Hueys or similar, I made the splashes with slightly watered down acrylic paint.

You can see below how I added a couple of extra photos to the layout by having tabs to allow them to be pulled out from behind the main photos. They can be easily reached and viewed with the LO still in its page protector.

Boys2Men 21st birthday card for a drummer

I was asked to make a 21st card for a male drummer and this was another card I had in mind when I made my recent purchase of Ella's Designs Boys2Men CD. I used Serif Craft Artist to make the spotlit effect over the drum kit. I cropped the music paper in to a square and duplicated it, then digitally punched a hole from the top layer, then reduced the transparency of the bottom layer to get this effect. With quite a bit of head scratching, I even managed to do a print and cut with my Craft Robo to create the sentiment circle inside the card. The card base is A5 landscape made from piecing together parts of two sheets of A4, as I wanted the fold to be at the side, as the card is quite heavy and I find tent fold cards sometimes collapse a bit. I then cut a bit off the RHS edge to make the shape a little more interesting.

I'm entering this card in to the following challenge:
